Hi, I'm Marika Widmann, DNP, FNP-BC. I am a board-certified Family Nurse Practitioner. I received my Bachelors in Science of Nursing from the University of the Incarnate Word, Bachelors in Nutrition Science from Purdue University Global, and Doctorate in Nursing Practice from Baylor University. I am board-certified through the American Nurses Credentialing Center and am currently pursuing my board certification in Functional Medicine through the Institute of Functional Medicine. In 2022 I was recognized as ANCC's Pathway To Excellence Nurse of the Year. My nursing career began at the Audie L. Murphy VA Healthcare System in San Antonio, VA where I worked as a Medical Surgical Nurse. As a proud Navy Veteran and working alongside veterans, I have a great respect for the mental health community and a passion to find holistic innovative ways to care for patients with mental health conditions. I believe taking care of individuals requires a whole-health approach, looking at both physical and mental aspects of health and wellness to optimize healing and longevity. I use an integrative and root-based approach to care, incorporating evidence-based treatments that are both modern and traditional. I believe that as providers, we need to look at the root causes of illness rather than just treating symptoms. I take the time to listen to patients' stories and develop care plans that are truly patient-centered. I currently work at the Durham VA Healthcare System in Infection Control and I also provide care in an Integrative Health and Regenerative Medicine clinic. I am also an active member within the North Carolina Nurses Association and American Nurses Association. In my free time I enjoy weight-lifting, crafting, and spending time with my family.
