Hi, I'm Keith Sakata, MD, a board-eligible psychiatrist at Amae. I trained in neurobiology at UC Irvine, engineered CAR-T cells in medical school at UCSF, and completed an internship in internal medicine at Stanford before returning to UCSF for psychiatry residency. The further I trained in medicine, the clearer it became that the human relationship matters as much as the treatment, sometimes more. That belief shapes how I practice. My approach is evidence-based and humanistic, attuned to your values, and grounded in the belief that you can get better. I bring a primary-care sensibility to severe mental illness, where whole-body health, measurement-based care, and integrated treatment can change the course of someone's life. I've also written and spoken publicly about AI in mental health, including as a guest on Oprah's podcast. Outside of clinic, you'll find me backpacking in the Sierra, playing video games, or cheering on the LA Dodgers.
