Amae Health was founded by Sonia Garcia and Stas Sokolin after personal experiences with the gaps in SMI care. The name comes from a Japanese concept meaning the human need to depend on one another. Amae partners with leading academic health systems including New York-Presbyterian, Cedars-Sinai, and Novant Health.\

## Who Amae Serves\
\
Amae treats adults (18+) with severe or complex mental health diagnoses, including:\
\
- Schizophrenia and schizoaffective disorder\
- Bipolar disorder\
- Major depressive disorder\
- Psychotic disorders and first-episode psychosis\
- Borderline personality disorder\
- PTSD and trauma\
- Co-occurring substance use disorder (SUD)\
- Suicidal ideation or recent attempts\

## How Care Works\
\
Patients typically begin following a hospitalization or acute psychiatric event. Amae uses a step-down model:\
\
- Intensive phase: 5 days/week, 5 hours/day (similar to PHP)\
- Intermediate phase: approximately 3 days/week (IOP)\
- Maintenance phase: once monthly, traditional outpatient\
\
Same-day intakes are available. Warm handoffs from partner hospitals are a core part of the referral model.\
\
## Clinical Team\
\
Each clinic includes psychiatrists, therapists, primary care physicians, dietitians, health coaches, peer mentors, and clinical care coordinators. Care plans are individualized and involve patients and families.\
\
Treatment modalities include psychiatry and medication management, CBT, DBT, health coaching, peer support, and vocational support.\
